Description:
|
Acrylic painting of Congregation Mickve Israel. Congregation Mickve Israel, completed in 1878, is the only Gothic style Synagogue in America and is located on Monterey Square. The image is from a scan of a slide from Myrtle Jones Collection, MS 002. The slide was used in the publication of her book, A Savannah Experience: an artistic expression of my life in Savannah, published in 1995.
Artist's statement: "I had painted this historic synagogue, Temple Mickve Israel on Monterey Square, many times before, but not with the sunlight streaming across it so beautifully. I especially like the way the tall palm trees reach for the sky in this painting."
