Abstract:
Game artists and designers are constantly pushing storytelling to new levels, involving as many components as they can. Game environments help visually tell and support the story that is going on within the world, and game artists want the environment to be as effective as possible. To do this, one must know what components should be carefully considered when building an environment. Use of size, texture, cameras, and visual cues can all be used to great results to bring the player a compelling and believable world to play in. However, one must first understand these components, what they mean, and how they work, which will lead to a better understanding of how a player perceives the game world and how they react and interact with what they are given to work with. By utilizing the above-mentioned visual cues, research on comparison models will be used to great effect within a visual project to demonstrate the various components of the paper. Having a good work flow to start with will enable one to be able to build each component up from the other to create a convincing environment no matter the setting or size. Being able to understand how the player reads information and how they feel within the environment is a key component to making everything work and come together. When one understands the pieces that build up to a full game environment, one can better apply this knowledge to building compelling environments within a game world to the result of better and more significant storytelling.
