Abstract:
The justification for this thesis is to effectively assimilate Chinese Buddhist cultural aspects into a restaurant environment by identifying the needs of the specific group of Buddhist believers, such as the meaning of the Buddhist diet and its guidelines, the benefits and the practice of mindful eating, and the temple’s sacred experience. The goal of this study is to demonstrate that the interior design of a restaurant can bring the Buddhist stories, the religious patterns, the colors, the materials, and the ornaments – everything about the Chinese Buddhist culture – into a restaurant experience in order to create an interior space that is not only authentic, aesthetic, enriched, and diversified based on the White Horse Temple's Buddhist culture and experience, but also resonates emotionally with the guests. This will be achieved by using four design theories: pattern language theory, restorative environmental theory, tranquil environment theory, and Feng Shui theory.
