Abstract:
By utilizing strong vocal technique, it is possible for performing artists to safely execute the
potentially hazardous vocal extremes, commonly called vocal violence, that occur when
performing intoxicated characters. As Vocal Coach of Savannah College of Art and Design
Performing Arts department’s Spring 2014 production of The Drunken City, I research and
explore these techniques with the actors in solo and group sessions so that they can begin to
safely craft a sustainable and believable performance.
