Abstract:
"With the Macau Territory returned back to China Rules in 1999 previously under the administrative rule of the Portugal, the Chinese government established a special administrative region government for the special Macau Territory. The policy of “One Nation but Two Systems” was implemented by the Chinese Central Government for both the Hong Kong and the Macau Territory. The Special Administrative Region status for these two regions allow the territory to have certain level of autonomous when it comes to the government and individual freedom. As the result of such designation (SAR), travelers crossing the borders between the Mainland China and the Macau Territory will have to go through special custom inspection process. Unlike most other regional crossing in the Mainland Territory, crossing into the Macau Territory will require the usage of passport similar to entering another foreign country. Because of the increase demand of travelers from abroad and from the Mainland China to the Macau Territory, there is a need to propose the design and development of a transportation hub that will interface between the Mainland China Territory and the Macau Territory. This thesis seeks to propose a modern ferry terminal with built in Custom Passport Inspection Center to facilitate the border crossing using ferries to and from the Macau Territory. From an Architecture Thesis argument perspective, the premise of such thesis proposal will be the establishing of the design aesthetic and function of a modern ferry terminal that will bridge across multiple cultures and environment."
