"'Yesterday’s Water' focuses on a transition from working through traditional, mimetic representation to process-based abstraction in a way that carefully vets formal elements and relationships that present themselves through intuitive decision making. Emphasizing the process, I explore the re-emergence tactile materiality and intricacies of interactions and surface quality. Historical influences in abstraction drive much of the techniques and strategies in my work. Acknowledging Abstract Expressionism especially in relation to the intuitive process, allows me to contextualize the meaning of abstraction in a contemporary setting. Working intuitively and responding to expressive, visceral, gestures and paint pours bring forward the importance of materiality and desensitizing the image."
