Abstract:
"In a static medium, the 'camera' is the most effective tool storytellers can utilize to tell a narrative. The angle of which an image is composed, in conjunction with the framing convention of comics, allows the medium to be directed into a story and accomplish many complex goals. Together they can create a sense of time, create motion, and give a scene a particular pacing, intent, or emotion. The camera not only controls the audience and what the viewer sees, but the manner in which the camera is used determines the genre of a work as well. This thesis will focus on this 'camera' and how it is the most powerful and nuanced tool for storytellers. It will analyze the use of the camera in film and how those concepts relate to a static medium." --Abstract
