Abstract:
"This thesis will analyze texture, pattern, and colors of my work, which transforms toilet paper into layers of meaning that sheds light on people’s positivity in respect to their living conditions in the contemporary era. I will analyze the issues of social identity implied in my abstraction, which also relates to how ordinary people liberate themselves from their constraints of the current social hierarchy. This thesis will then examine toilet paper’s status as a commodity that is associated with people’s understanding of reality. In order to disclose the inherent reference to mass positivity, this thesis will also analyze an artistic irony based on the reading of interrelations of 'space, story, and everyday life' in Michel de Certeau’s theory that the pedestrians of a city create an urban space through their walking actions embodied by their own styles. This call to reassess urban form and traditional patterns is a key point of interpreting my work."
