"People rely on visual clues to speculate his or her location (Hogon, Crawfod, Simt &
Smith, 2007). The visually impaired cannot receive these cues, which not only cause feelings of
panic, discomfort and stress, but might also cause a severe accident (Zimrzng & Templer, 1984).
As a result, the visually impaired may not experience a public space as much as they would like.
The goal of this thesis is to improve wayfinding for visually impaired people shopping in a
convenience store. Research focuses on how to design the signage, texture and illumination, and
how to help the visually impaired quickly find help in a convenience store. These findings may
help the visually impaired get what they desire, improve the designers’ approach to wayfinding
and help interior designers create more effective wayfinding strategies to attract more
consumers."
