Abstract:
"The circular economic model put forth by the Ellen Macarthur Foundation has gained momentum worldwide to overcome the inherent detrimental effects of the take-make-waste model by advocating the benefits of closed-loop production systems at the individual, organizational and the governmental level. This study predominantly examines the Circular Economy and further explores the cultural change required to pursue a sustainability-oriented innovative (SOI) outlook at the organizational level. The requirements and barriers to entry towards a SOI outlook are explored within the context of the culture of manufacturing firms within the USA through case studies. This body of work is a contribution to the ongoing conceptual development of SOI and provides an innovation toolkit to help enable consultancies or innovation labs in the field of sustainability develop the business case required to acquire buy-in from top management and pursue SOI as an embedded function of the organization."
