Abstract:
"This thesis re-designs the costumes for the film 'The Wiz,' inspired by the 1970’s African American culture. Dorothy is first seen in Oz after she accidentally kills the wicked witch, originating from the book and film 'The Wizard of Oz.' Research focuses on 'The Wiz' Soundtrack and how issues facing the African American community in the 1970s are still relevant today. These elements will highlight characters, as they go through Oz overcoming challenges, as well as showing a background story of each character through 1970s inspired costumes fashion."
