Abstract:
"Before feminism stated that women's experiences matter, men who wrote history thought women were not genetically or morally capable of meaningful friendships. These myths have been perpetuated in society as well as in the media, where women are constantly portrayed as mistrustful, mean, and competitive against each other, and their storylines revolve around the men they are with. This narrative has impacted how teenagers perceive other women and how they act around them. With more space for women telling their own stories and women collectives fighting together for equality, new narratives have the chance to transform these stereotypes.

The visual component of this thesis will support these new narratives, and will focus on the positive aspects of female friendships illustrating relatable situations of women supporting each other. These illustrations are meant to encourage a conversation on the new perception of relationships between women and how important they are to create social change." --Abstract
