Abstract:
"In recent years a lot of attention has been given to the study of body language and gestures. The main problem is that some of these studies are misunderstood as quick formulas to decode emotion through specific gestures or poses. In spite of this misunderstanding, both actors and animators have been using this resource to craft their performance across the history of cinema and animation. The Laban Movement Analysis (aka LMA) goes beyond body language studies and it decodes the thought process of people doing any kind of activity through the study of Effort. Rudolf Laban’s research has been used for a variety of disciplines like dance, therapy and acting; but in the field of animation is almost unknown. This Professional Animation Book looks to bridge this gap and to demonstrate through an animated short film how the LMA
can be integrated into the process of character animation during the planning and blocking stages to enhance the body acting and reach a high quality in both animation and entertainment." --Abstract
