Abstract:
"This thesis explores key tools used within design research methods to create frameworks for upcoming innovation. Specifically, we explore assessments/interviews and observations when conducting research in a holistic perspective. The goal is to have a better understanding of the objective or subjective results and therefore mitigate the bias that might exist in a design research exploration.

Design research falls under a social science umbrella, meaning we mostly use qualitative methods for approaching, applying and assessing information. This thesis focuses on the scientific research methods that utilize a quantitative approach. Adopting practices from scientific fields that study human behavior and human needs can lead to a more controlled research process. The first step to tackling human bias in user research is to understand it, by using scientific research methods and psychology to instill confidence in our research results. The final product developed for this system is BIASystem, a tool that can be used to identify bias in qualitative research. Using principles developed from systematic protocol methods and integrating them into the interview/assessment process, users can benefit by having a better understanding of the research data points." --Abstract
