Abstract:
"This thesis will analyze take an innovative look at diversifying story-telling and using those stories as a tool to heal and teach the upcoming generations. Telling the stories of the vast black diaspora will show children the various rich cultures and histories of its people. This, in turn, will assist in shedding the harmful ideology that black history starts with slavery. Children and teens have access to content and platforms that didn't exist twenty years ago. Even though a lot of the media that they consume is fictional, the stories and characters that are portrayed can shape their views of reality. Mythology has long been used as a tool and a base to create these stories. However, there tends to be a focus on the mythologies of the Greeks and Romans. These two empires were indeed powerful and the stories that come from them are rich and plentiful, but the same is true for many other nations. There is still so much un-tapped content that is waiting to diversify the thoughts and ideologies of consumers." --Abstract
