Abstract:
"In my thesis exhibition, 'Worth,' I will use fragmented imagery within my work to both define and explore the nature of self-identification and individual actualization within the postmodernist framework. The paintings balance between abstraction, classical imagery and themes, realism, and pop art sensibilities. These elements document personal struggles and help to differentiate between true perception and psychological hyperreality. The paintings in my thesis not only document human desires of finding a true identity but will also exist as an effort to come to terms with my own struggles with mental illness, self-image and identity. These paintings will also serve to reconcile my struggles with events and emotions from my past, my present states, and the anxieties of the future. The goal within this approach is to express an absolute truth, acceptance, and actuality of the fragile human condition by relating to my own true self in referencing and confronting personal traumas against the hope of recovery." --Abstract
