Abstract:
"By looking into the human history of the Savannah River and drawing
parallels to contemporary landscape artists, the photographic body of work,
Water Study, is an investigation into the sense of displacement and loss that can
happen to a community when a waterway is exploited. I use water samples from
the Savannah River in the darkroom process. The water is mixed with developer
and poured over exposed photographic paper. The water then develops images
of the human-made alterations that have displaced and overrun the river. By
exploring this relationship between humans and nature, we find a value system
that prioritizes economy over ecology.
I hope viewers of these images come away with a heightened awareness
of our use of the natural world, and specifically their relationship with the
resources in their own backyards."
