Abstract:
The United States is currently struggling to find the proper way to deal with
undocumented workers. There is concern that immigrants are taking American jobs, but
few recognize that the jobs these people are taking are not high paying jobs, but
minimum wage (or below) jobs that the average American either doesnʼt want or canʼt
do. Government is turning a blind eye to the subject, but the problem will not resolve
itself. Photography has historically been a powerful tool for informing the public and
impacting policy. Some examples are the Vietnam war and the work of Depression-era
FSA (Farm Security Administration) photographers Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans.
It is very important that our country realizes just how much of our daily lives are touched
by undocumented workers. My goal is to make people aware and encourage equitable
policy change.
