Abstract:
There exists in comics a long tradition of artists who attempt to use their medium as a
means to persuade their readers. Comics with the intent to persuade must absorb the
reader with subtle, strong characters and an engaging narrative in order to be taken
seriously, and, in effect, to be successful as tools for potential change. Jack T. Chick is
one of the most well known practitioners of persuasive religious comics. However he
fails to provide these essential elements. Through examining his work and its mistakes,
one can better understand what makes a successful persuasive comic.
