Abstract:
|
“Mono No Aware, ‘the pathos of things’, is an aesthetic idea generated from traditional Japanese culture, and it suggests profound emotions with natural phenomenal changes. The term has been associated with different emotions through time but frequently sadness. The purpose of this thesis is to extend interpretations of Mono No Aware aesthetics and analyze how this term contributes to expressions of longing and evoke people’s deep emotional feeling of love in animation production. It will then analyze animated films in different cultures to see how elements of Mono No Aware are found in the films’ techniques to get audiences to sympathize with the story.” –Abstract
