Abstract:

“Today, ongoing regional conflicts, climate change, war, famine and other global issues have led to a dramatic increase in the number of refugees globally. There are nearly 26 million of these refugees, about half of whom are under the age of 18 (UNHCR, 2021). This study focuses on child migration and asylum and considers child refugees environments during their transition to the United States. The U.S. has several measures and processes for transitioning adult refugees, but child refugees are still a neglected group. It is hoped that this study will provide an encouraging environment for child refugees in asylum and facilitate their growth and rehabilitation as they settle into a new country. This paper found that the most significant issue of child refugees after arriving in a new country is the mental trauma issue and the consciousness development problem through research on the current situation of child refugees, consciousness development, and existing programs. The series of surveys established the use of trauma-informed design theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative art therapy as the leading solutions to the issue. Different environments can mediate changes in human emotions. The project seeks to use interior design methods to reduce negative emotions in child refugees, stimulate creativity and imagination, increase self-esteem, and increase their sense of belonging.” –Abstract
