Abstract:
“Most post-apocalyptic movies or TV series we see focus on the destruction or hardships that the protagonists are experiencing. The possible beauty of a post-apocalyptic world is usually not the motive of such film genres. Showing the world as ruins is not just about scaring people to care for the environment, but to see the power of nature and what it might look like without just showing the destruction and hopeless mood. This thesis will examine the history of matte painting and use two iconic landmarks, the Taj Mahal and St. Basil’s Cathedral, to demonstrate the potential future of the world using matte painting techniques. By illuminating the destruction through visualization, this thesis will support action on the impending climate doom ensnaring the earth.” –Abstract
