Abstract:
“This thesis focuses on Intuition of experience as a pastor’s kid in the church seeing the behind the scenes of Gullah Geechee spiritual practices supplemented with historic research. By creating abstract soft sculptural macrame objects. Through this body of work, I am telling a story of becoming unbound from the illusion of religion embracing a road to freedom. I weave and sew a variety of fiber textures into the installation, informed by experiences of being a black woman in America from a deeply religious family. The work itself becomes a form of meditative prayer, worship, and release.” --Abstract
