Abstract:
“This thesis will explore various pieces of poetry and song, respond through personal literary analysis, and leave room for more poetic creativity for future generations. The Black community has used various creative methods to bring light to their experience through racism and oppression for centuries. Many of these creative outlets have been shared through visual art, performance, and writing. The twentieth century is made of rich Black culture through the struggles of societal, political, and economic wealth. Many poets of the time wrote the realism behind what Black people experienced through slavery, segregation, and more. Through poetry, they found themselves, wrote the unwritten Black experience, and created music on the page.” –Abstract
