Abstract:
Some
concepts
cannot
be
expressed
or
explained
verbally.
They
only
exist
as
fleeting
thought
or
as
incomprehensible
theory
or,
perhaps,
as
some
kind
of
feeling.
This
thesis
describes
how
the
artist
Carrie
Johnson
uses
art
as
an
investigative
system
in
an
attempt
to
decode
and
define
the
ephemeral
concepts
of
identity
and
self.
The
artist
illustrates
how
her
process
relates
to
feminism
and
how
the
ideas
of
Metamodernism
and
Romantic
Conceptualism
frame
her
practice.
