Abstract:
"Dharavi is an example of a vibrant neighbourhood where people from different social classes live and work side by side. With a diversified population and distinctive cultural expressions, this unusual location has a strong micro-cultural identity. Therefore, it is imperative to transform the Dharavi Slums into a vibrant neighbourhood that promotes cohabitation and boosts the local economy. The goal of the Dharavi redevelopment is to address the urban sprawl brought on by the slums and create a new framework for the improvement of the Dharavi community, moving beyond its existing position as a slum. This thesis aims to present an architectural project cantered around the existing residents, small businesses, and migrants in Dharavi. The project focuses on developing a mixed-use or multifunctional space that incorporates affordable housing, commercial infrastructure, and community gathering areas for social and cultural activities. By addressing the environmental challenges posed by the current slums, this thesis also seeks to contribute to the overall improvement of the area." --Abstract
