Abstract:
“The automobile has made an invaluable impact on the progression of society since it began production on assembly lines in factories in the early 20th century and has been instrumental in connecting us with each other to help drive the age of technology forward. However, the world’s relationship with technology and with the automobile is fraught; internetconnected people spend more time alone than ever, depression and anxiety are on the rise across all population demographics, and the inefficiencies of the automobile are glaringly clearer with each passing year. Advancements in technology have revealed the potential for a fundamental change in the way we build and interact with automobiles. How can the automobile be reimagined to help connect people to themselves, to each other, and to their world in an age of increasing aloneness? This paper aims to understand growing mobility inefficiencies in urban areas and address how increased mobility can improve people’s social, and emotional well-being. A transportation design proposal intended to increase mobility efficiency and encourage physical social connection is the intended deliverable.” –Abstract
