Abstract:
"This thesis project proposes techniques used to help create new original performances such as: devising, improvisation, active analysis, and play writing can help the actor understand the nuances of playing a character that lives within a secondary character by breaking down the original script using the techniques of Stanislavski and Uta Hagen to establish the character's imagined circumstances. In the production of 'MAC BETH' adapted by Erica Schmidt the dialogue used is the original text written by William Shakespeare, but the concept has a modern twist. Instead of taking place in the Kingdoms of Scotland it is a group of school girls who meet up to play in an abandoned junkyard. These techniques were utilized to understand the famous role of Macbeth, but also the young girl who takes on this character while asking the question: what do these two have in common?" --Abstract
