Abstract:
“Climate change, sea level rise, and coastal erosion pose serious dangers to India's coastal livelihoods, endangering communities that rely on coastal resources. This thesis investigates the relationship between improving coastal livelihoods and preserving marine health and coastal wellness. It assesses the multifaceted implications of climate change and ocean pollution on coastal populations and ecosystems, as well as the role of interior design in raising awareness and promoting sustainable design techniques. Along with that, the thesis also focuses on the neglected issues of altered livelihood, identity crisis, social relations and loss of and opportunities. Interior design may help coastal communities become mindful of the environment by incorporating environmental education and advocacy into the built environment. Interior design concepts can also encourage environmentally friendly practices and resource management strategies that improve coastal resilience. It envisions a future in which interior design catalyzes positive improvements in India's coastal regions, while protecting marine health and coastal wellness by improving the communities’ collective memory as well.” –Abstract
