Abstract:
“The rapid urbanization of cities, driven by economic development and globalization, poses significant environmental challenges linked to deforestation, habitat loss, and pollution, undermining nature and promoting unsustainable practices. Despite ongoing environmental regeneration initiatives, limited awareness of human impact persists, as economic interests often override environmental protection and social well-being. While current efforts predominantly focus on large-scale projects in Quito, Ecuador, there is a need to complement them with small-scale interventions targeting specific environmental issues such as water management, temperature regulation, habitat protection, air quality, biodiversity, and human interaction. By integrating bottom-up approaches with local government support, the expertise of the academy, and private institutions, a sense of connection and responsibility among community members can be instilled, fostering behavioral changes and increasing environmental sustainability awareness. This research underscores the importance of incorporating environmental regeneration into urban acupuncture projects, emphasizing the need of community-driven, small-scale interventions to create positive ripple effects in larger urban ecosystems, bridging the gap between urban development and ecological preservation.” –Abstract
