Abstract:
“Single-sided visual storytelling in Graphic Design has been used to promote hatred and spread fear of certain communities creating dehumanizing perceptions and stereotypes, particularly about Muslims living in the Middle East and South Asia. By critically exposing and analyzing these visual frameworks, it becomes possible to dismantle and disrupt the enduring systems of apartheid and oppression that continue to dispossess people and help the powerful. Visual communication provides a means to challenge these entrenched perspectives and unlearn dehumanizing stereotypes. We must reconstruct innovative visual narratives that transcend colonial universality, offering alternative viewpoints. We must resist “the empire” by telling stories that break away from the narratives we have been conditioned to accept.” --Abstract
